Amit Mishra registered the second hat-trick of the tournament as Daredevils beat Deccan Chargers by 12 runs in their Indian Premier League match at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Thursday.
Chasing 195 for victory, the Chargers suffered an early jolt when captain Adam Gilchrist (13) fell to McGrath in the 3rd over of their inning.
Shahid Afridi (33), promoted up the order as opener, and Herschelle Gibbs (22) added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership in very less time within 4 overs, with some lusty hitting.
But when the things look to have settled down for chargers both got out in quick time , both to spinner Amit Mishra who later got the second HAT-Trick of the tournament..
Then Rohit Sharma (35 in 18 balls) and Scott Styris (29) put on 39 runs for the 4th wicket before Sri Lankan Maharoof got the wicket of both.
Venugopal Rao again showed an aggressive intent again in his 18-ball 34 (3x4 and 2x6) before get out to McGrath try to hi another six, but could not manage to clear the boundry Rope and got out in the hand of substitute Shoaib Malik making no misstake in the deep.
Then again shewag face the same condition as He face against the Chennai Supar Satrs when Chargers needed 15 of the last 6 balls, but this time shewag choose the right man to bowl , and Amit Mishra also did not let down his captain.
Mishra came back to take a hat-trick, the second of the tournament after Chennai's Lakshmipathy Balaji, picking up D Ravi Teja [Images] (9), Pragyan Ojha (0) and RP Singh (1) to finish with figures of five for 17.
Deccan Chargers finished at 182 for 9, 12 runs short off their target.
Earlier, half-centuries by Gautam Gambhir (79) and Shikhar Dhawan (68*) powered Daredevils to 194 for 4.
Earlier Gilchrist won the toss and elected to field first, and started well to get the wicket of Shewag for duck (0) in the first over but Gambhir and Dhawan added 133 runs for the second wkt in just over 14 overs.
Gambhir again made well paced 79 on just 48-ball included seven hits to the fence besides three sixes. Dhawan's unbeaten knock was a product of his 52-ball stay during which he hit eight boundaries.
Gambhir did not look quite convincing either. Twice he was almost caught and once escaped a run-out, making ground just in time to hang around.
The southpaw finally broke the shackles in the fourth over, milking 20 runs off it. R P Singh banged one short and Gambhir sent it over deep square leg ropes.
Dhawan was content playing the second fiddle all along and the left-hander hit Shahid Afridi for back-to-back boundaries to reach his half-century.
Both of them laid the perfect foundation for a late burst but Gambhir's dismissal, stumped off a wide ball from Pragyan Ojha, came as anti-climax.
Ferveez Maharoof chipped in with an 11-ball 19.
Amit Mishra removed Ravi Teja, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh off three successive balls in a dramatic last over to record the second hat-trick of the tournament. His figure read 4-0-17-5.
